You can discover your perseverance when you set yourself a challenge and go on an adventure.
Sometimes you surprise yourself how good you are at persevering when you really want something. Motivation is often the underlying factor in whether you’re successful or not. There is a great feeling of triumph and achievement if you can persevere and reach your goal.
Discovering Perseverance on Treks
In our trekking adventures our perseverance has been tested many times. One particularly satisfying day was the hike to Torres Del Paine in Patagonia. While we had taken awhile to make progress on the trail, we kept our focus on our objective to see the amazing granite rock towers, and it paid off. It was a long hard day but it was so rewarding.
Another memorable day was climbing up Mt Taranaki in New Zealand. It was a particularly hard slog up and down the steep slopes of the volcano on very challenging terrain. 14 hours later we emerged exhausted but victorious! Yet another was the gruelling long day in snowy weather on our 10 Peaks Challenge at Mt Kosciuszko in Australia.
We have also learnt from experiences when things didn’t go so well. For example, our Mera Peak trek where we later felt we could have pushed ourselves a bit harder. Remembering that situation has helped us persevere through other challenging treks.
We’ve also gained confidence from these treks to go on and do bigger things such as our Project Base8000.
Just put one foot in front of the other. One step at a time … and discover your perseverance!
