Got a big idea and want to know how to start an adventure project? Here are 6 simple steps to get you started.
- Define Your Goal
What is the end outcome and why do you want to achieve it?
Make it a one line sentence that describes it simply and clearly to anyone. See our Project Base8000 for an example or our Adventure Ideas. - Identify Your Objectives
What are the key things you want to achieve on this project?
What are your priorities?
What’s in scope and out of scope?
What are the measures of success?
Are you looking to create or break a record? Search the Guinness World Records or any other authority on your topic. - Quantify Your Resources
Who do you need on your team? What help do you need?
Will you have partners e.g. sponsors, charities. If so, what do you need from them and what can you offer them and are willing to commit to?
How much is it going to cost?
What gear, equipment, technology or other resources will you need? - Specify Your Timeline
What do you want to achieve and by when?
Are there any key dates to take into account?
What are you dependent on? - Create A Plan
What steps do you need to take? Brainstorm your initial thoughts, then put them in order e.g. by phase or milestone.
Build them into a plan – you’ll flesh it out as you progress.
Decide who will do what and by when.
How will you manage and track progress?
What are the risks and how will you mitigate them?
How do you want to promote your project? Or do you want it kept confidential or low profile?
How will you document your project? (Tip: start now e.g. a project diary, pictures, videos) - Execute The Plan!
Kick off the project, manage it then review it and celebrate when it’s done.
